It's likely running in limp-home mode, which means that the ECM knows that something's not right with the MAF sensor, so it ignores the information it receives through the MAF circuit, and runs off of the other tables.
Any codes? Is the check engine bulb good?
Disconnect battery for 30 seconds and connect. Start car. Any change? If ya place a 3.9 K ohm resistor between A & B terminals you can put the ecm in limp home mode to verify. Disconnect MAF from filter side so you can see down into the sensor. Engine running, be looking down into it in a dark area. Have some one turn key off. You should see the wire glow.
You need to make sure the MAF is the problem and not the 2 relays connected to the MAF or some other issue. The MAF is $160 used and the relays are $10 each. I was dealing with an idle problem and set a code 33, but the problem was my IAC valve and not the MAF.
Car seems to run fine.. Is it safe to go as-is? Till I get the new stuff?Chevy garage said just to leave it unpluged... Now this is new to me.. On my other cars the MAF unplugged would stop to motor..
I don't know if it will damage the motor or not, but I wouldn't chance it. It would be a shame to ruin a $3000 motor for $20 worth of relays or a $160 mass air.
I had the same thing, but I got coded 33,34,36. My problem was the relays but yours sounds like the meter itself. Make sure it's clear, and if you dont feel comfortable buying a new one yet, check ebay for a $40 one and see if you get and progress
It'll be fine as logn as you don't drive the car much and don't do no hard driving..
It is a 'safety' mode built into the car. As long as you plan to fix it within the next few days it should be ok.. just going to run poorly that's all..
