I went to start my vette and no good!! Checked all fuses battery is good, vats, I have a by-pass but I turn the the key and nothing! Maybe a starter?? or something going to starter??? [IMG][/IMG]
A bypassed VATS will keep the start enable relay closed, BUT you still have to go through the clutch safety switch (gear selector sw if you have an automatic) to get to the starter solenoid. Jump the clutch sw or if auto, jiggle the gear selector while trying to crank. You may have to remove the console cover to jump the gear selector switch.
I advise you to fix your VATS problem (probably worn out ign sw) because 99% of thefts are done by bashing your column and jumping the ignition.
What does the switch look like?? I was just out going up and down sideways and still nothing! I didn't remove the consol yet though!!! It acts like I don't even have a battery in it! But that works real good! It's an interstate!!! :banghead:
You clearly have no 12v from the start position in the ign sw getting to the solenoid terminal on the starter. The gear selector switch can be seen after you remove the console plate over the gear shift lever. You can even jump 12v on the wire from the selector switch going to the starter to make the starter run. If no starter cranking, then I would remove the starter and have it checked.
I would double check the VATS bypass. If it's anything like mine, the connection seemed less than reliable initially. I just put my hush panel back on after a month. If my car exhiits the same symptoms again that's the first place I'm goin' :smash:
I stuck my arm through the engine department neat the head and exhaust pipe and felt the starter the front nut was lose! I don't if that is my promlem but I know I shouldn't have lose nuts! I have to get it jacked up to look at it and put a meter on the starter!!! :cuss
Remove the ground cable on your battery first, then tighten the nut on the electrical connector on your starter. This will prevent shorting the battery with your wrench when tightening the starter nut.
Will do tomarrow!@! i got it jacked up right now and jack stands underneath each axle!! Man I would hate to c that fall on me!!! Thanx for the advice.
Well got her running again!!! It was the starter nut!!! Crawled underneath her and tighten it down and she kicked right over!!! Then I gave her a nice bath!!! Looking good again!! Now waiting for the snow and salt to go away!!!! :flag
My back bumper looked like URS before I put on a ZR-1!! Boy it changes the whole looks!! And I didget my car started today!! i twas a lose starter nut!! Gave her a bath and lookin good again!!
