Volts Question?

Volts Question?
I just installed a new battery and was wondering how many volts should be displayed with no load? I'm getting between 13.6 and 13.9. I thought the reading should be in the 14's with no load :confused: Could this be an indication of a bad alternator? Thanks for any help.

My 89 has a 2 year old alternator. For the 2 years I have had it the average readings @ operating temperature (160-180 degrees) and 1800 RPM and NO A/C have been consistently 13.7 volts. As the operating temperature climbs the volts drop a little. With the A/C ON the volts drop to the low 13's, and if I get stuck in traffic with operating temperature up to 220 AND ambient temperature gets up to 100, AND the A/C going full blast-- readings go down to the high 12's.
Heat and A/C seem to really effect the volts on mine.
