Ok, I am new to the vette game, so I don't know much about them. I have a set of 16" wheels off a Trans am, and I would like to put them on my vette until I can afford the ZR-1 style wheels. do the 16's clear the brakes, or is there a reason Vettes have 17's?
Just make sure the offset is correct, or it will look like you are driving around with 4 donut spares on. I recently saw a guy here in town with the 5 spoke firebird wheels ( the ones that have the 'ABS' centercap) on his vette, an 87 i think, and it looked stupid as hell. 84-87 and some 88 vettes had stock 16" wheels. 88 model year is when they started putting the 17 inchers on. Whats wrong with the wheels you have on right now?
I have 16" nittos mounted on 16x8 Z28 salad shooter style wheels for my drag tires. I throw them on the back each time I go to the track and they fit fine without clearance problems..............can't speak for the 96s though although I know some have put 15" weld rims on the rear of late C4s and have only had to grind the calipers a bit so imagine 16s will fit fine.
I agree with your wheel choice and have a set of the "Firebird Take Offs" that are currently being sold in the mags. On an '84, they fit easily (but I have the small brakes and roters and so can even run 15' rally wheels). Right now, I am using a 3/4' spacer (bolt on type and not for racing) and they look and drive fine.
