Default Real nice setup!

I install my New TPIS AIr Box tonight. It mounts in the same spot as the regular air box, but instead of pulling front the very small spot in the front of the box, it pulls from underneath the car. You have to cut a hole in the radiator shroud and it opens up the air box to the very underneath of the car! The air cleaner is basically on the exact opposite side as the original, if you can picture that.

Dad forgot his camera, or I would have taken some pictures. And eventually will for you all to see.

The only two snags I ran into was the aux fan in front of the radiator is mounted to the section that needs cut out. Upon inspection I was able to leave two 1.5 inch strips running from the front to the upper part of the rad shroud so the fan would still have its upper supports.

The second was the T-Bolts they supply to hold the air box in place were contacting the hood slightly. So I just replaced them with regular bolts unti the T-Bolt hold downs can be turned down a tad.

The unit is about a million times better looking than the stock air box. Its Gloss black and looks sweet.

Corky picked up .3 sec just installing that alone from the stock cut box! That is HUGE, and now that I see how its set up I can see why its such an improvement over the stock unit.

Tomorrow, provided the weather hold out, I am making my way to NJ for the first track times with the car! Its all loaded up and we are leaving at 3am for the bijillion hour trip out there

Hope to report a good time for you all! Talk to you later, and pray the weather hold out. :blueangel:

I have the SLP ram air setup and it pulls from underneath the car in front of the radiator. How does yours get all the way under the car?? Does it go behind the radiator or something?

It pulls from right infront of the radiator actually. There is that tunnel that is just above that scoop on the front of your car that feed air to the radiator, this pull the air from there. Its supposedly pressurized due to the air hitting the radiator.

My air box looks quite a bit different than that one shown above. Its all fiberglass and doesn't have any of those support webs in it. Its quite a bit thicker at the bend too. But the concept is the same.

This is just a quick observation, and I might be all wet, as I did not even drive the car yet with the new box, but the car seems to rev ALOT quicker now. Believe me with the solid cam in there, it revved QUICK before, but now it seems to be alot snappier.

Well its time to take off for NJ.

Troy, actually that is Raysur's, but it is the same one I have. I haven't installed it yet, it will be going in when I do my motor. I bought mine off the forum. I think TPIS is the only one who still carries them. :steering:

Anyone know American Performance's website? I just saw Raysur's setup (posted above at: http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c5/raysur/index2.shtml ) and it looks really REALLY sweet!!! The Mid America kit doesn't look anywhere near that good, and I can't find the TPiS one on their site.

Thanks.

Just checked out the Exotic Muscle website. Looks like the same one as Raysur's, but it says that it'll only fit '91-'95 cars. CRAP! Mine's an '89!

I guess I'll take another look at the Mid America one. Too bad. I really like the 'factory-stock' look of Raysur's.

But thanks for the info Ramrod92.
