Default Tuning 383TPI

I’m about to start a new 383TPI, what are the initial ECM constants and tables that should be changed in the EPROM assuming the following set up:

Super ram
30# injectors
AFR 190 heads
CAM motion 225/231 @ .050, .554/.560, 112 centerline
1.6 rockers
180 DEG thermostat
165 ECM, MAF for an 87 IROC TPI (originally 350)

I have the EPROM burning equipment, CATS program and WinALDL, I'm starting with an ARAP bin. The motor is in the car and I want to start with a chip that will not damage anything. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Change your idle speed to about 800 or 850 for you cam, raise your cold start idle speed about 200 RPM above stock numbers. Your injector constant should reflect what you have now. What year is this car? You should download DataMaster from the following site to collect data for further tuning issues.
http://www.ttspowersystems.com

I would also bump your timing maps in the lower RPM ranges to bring up the cylinder pressue for idle. Having a larger cam tends to lower dynamic dynamic compression of you engine so adding a couple degrees of timing helps idle characturistics.

Or if you have access to a dyno with a wide band o2 that would be great as well for gather data and tuning.

The car is an 87. Can I use the ARAP bin with the injectors changed to 30# to break in the cam and the engine? I don't want to damage anything.

I had my 383 tuned locally by Nick Mannarino (www.modernperformanceinc.com) and Bob Ida (www.idaautomotive.com). I told them to use the ARAP chip as a starting point. I it for a very short while on the plain ARAP and it ran poorly but safely.

I now believe that tuning chips really takes too long for the the typical vendor to put enough time to get it right. I know my guys did over 20 dyno pulls with a wide band O2 and I'm still not satisfied. I either need to learn hoow to burn my own chips or go DFI. Just my .02

I have a friend with a setup almost identical to yours. You'll be running way to rich everywhere with those injectors, that motor, and stock ARAP EPROM . Start with ensuring your fuel pressure is at bare minimum ( 43 PSI ). Pull LOTS of fuel out of the OpenLoopTEMPvsAFR and OpenLoopLoadvsAFR. Then proceed to log and pull fuel out of the WOT maps. That 30# injector is actually a little large for your motor...he ended up going to a 24#. You'll see why once you get into the programming . The pulse width is <1.6 mS ( inconsistent ) at idle/low RPM/Load. We couldn't actually pull enough fuel out of the motor when the LV8s were < 125 and had to let the ECM run with Block Learn #s of 114-116. Good Luck!!
