Wierd starting problem.........

Wierd starting problem.........
When my car has sat overnight when i go to start it the next mornin when i want to go out if i turn the key all the way then it wont start. Thru playing with it over a period of time i have discovered however that if you just barely let the key go into the start position but not all the way back the car will start without a hitch. Any idea what my problem could be?? I was thinking maybe a starting soleniod in the column but i dont even know if that exists for my car. Btw the lock cylinder is only about a year old.
