Wish I were closer to Sanford, I'd ask for a job with them. Can you imagine working on Vettes and getting paid for it? Might get old after about 10 or 15 years. I love nice machines

Hey Jenn.. sorry to hear about your opticrap. Here is what i have on my site about telling if it's bad:

"So, you say that you've lost high end rpm power and your car is doing some sputtering. Does it sound like your cooking up a bag of pop-corn under the hood of your car? Does it run and just randomly die? Does heavy load cause loss of power? Do you smell coolant under the hood around the front of your engine? Is there a nice 8" or so splatter mark of dried coolant on your hood between the dust shields? Do you hear missing or detonation a middle rpms?"

I'd say most likely if you don't have splatter marks, and you don't find any coolant or nasty dirt on the underside of the waterpump, that your opti is safe. That makes perfect sense about your A/C (heater makes no sense). That is something i've noticed with my 6spd, you can really feel when the A/C clutch engages. It's not much, but i tell very small differences in acceleration pretty well. If you're feeling it without the A/C on, then you can eliminate that. The heater doesn't make sense because it doesn't have any effect on the engine load since it's just pulling heat from your coolant. It should actually HELP with acceleration cuz it cools your engine ;).

I'll be back in DFW in about a week and half and would help, but it sounds like you need this fixed quicker. Let us know of any other symptoms you've noticed.

BTW, you said it only does it when it's warm... here's an odd quesion: What does your digital coolant temp read when it's acting up like this?

Curtis, right now I'm driving the 85 (god help me if I get pulled over because the expired inspection, he'll never believe my TRUE sob story) Brian (qblue92 said let it sit a couple of days and we'll see how it does. The popping and missing under acceleration sounds right but I didn't see or smell coolant. The coolant temp read about 190-200 degrees while it was doing this, not excessively hot  If you're around next week and we haven't fixed it, come on down and see what you think

BTW, how's school?

If your in defrost or have the heat directed to the windshild the AC runs to dehumidify, defog the glass.
good luck - keep us inform on your progress
