Ok I was having top end engine knocking problems last week, and I took it to the shop he said it was lifters. He replaced it and charged me 500.00. The SAME DAY the lower part of the engine starts knocking. So now i am pissed and I am just going to put a different engine in it. I called this company they said they will tow it in rebuild it, put bigger pistions in it and bore it over 30. It will have a 3 year 50K war. for 2197. Is this a good price and how much HP will this give me.
Thanks
In Houston a stock Cross Fire rebuild runs about $750.00 with you pulling the engine and reinstalling with a 12 month 12K mile engine, so you are paying the extra $ for the R & R and warranty. Don't know about the shop that is doing your rebuild? How good they are or not? Precision Engines in Houston has a web site. Don't know if link will post or not but I think it is http://www.precisionengine.com or you can get a brand new 200 HP 350 crate motor from GM for about $1300 with a 3 yr/50,000 mile warranty.
Since youre having the work done, i would ask them how much just to swap blocks if you order an engine and have it shipped to their shop. Then I agree you should shop prices on a GM crate engine. You get a more reputable warranty and a quaity part making great power. This will leave you lots of room for modifying that CFI setup. I think youll spend the same money but have a new engine. Remember this shop did the work on a tired engine just to get your money. There are too many good shops around to get taken. Do your homework here. What are your plans for this Vette??
Ok thanks for the site I am expection some detail via email from them soon. It is a diffrent shop that maybe doing this work for me, I dont know if they are any good but I suppose they are if there is a 3 year war. I first went to a chevy dealer they told me for a new crate motor and labor it will be 8700. I almost passed out lol. 7300 for the engine and 1400 for the motor. I think the block is ok it just needs to be rebuilt. If I get this rebuild how much HP will it give me and do u think it could last a long time?

I am sorry about my last reply I meant to say 7300 for the motor and 1400 for the labor. I am for sure not going to go get it done there, the dealer always charges more. My plans are to atleast keep the car for another year and maybe trade it for some guy building me a 99 Lamborghini kit car with a LT1. I am not sure yet but I cant afford to pay a lot of money to get this fixed no more than 2500 IF that lol well I am open for ANY suggestion thanks. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

lol this is how I feel right now.
It really depends on how many miles are already on this motor......really if you think about it....if you replace simple parts...your still going to have problems.....the really good idea......even if you don't agree..because of cost is to rebuild the engine......if you just replace a couple of components....ie: heads...your still going to have a very soft lower end......so you should just rebuild the whole thing.....I know this sounds a bit much......but you must face the truth.....$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$
Sorry...
