Engine SWAP questions?????
:steering: :chevy :steering: :chevy
Do some searching I think the kit was around 1100. The guy sounds really knowlegable and does all his own work.
A decent site and I think he's a good guy (although the MIDI music gets annoying FAST), but the TPI swap is anything but easy. Especially if you're expecting a plug and play scenario. So yes, he'll sell you the parts but it's up to you to make sure they get put together correctly... and that's a lot of work to pass along to a friend for $250.
Honestly, you don't need to get caught up in the "how much horsepower?" hype- the crossfire manifold is actually a pretty decent manifold for street use. Don't think that just because "everyone" on the forum is pushing 300+ HP, that YOU must need 300HP as well. Judging by your experience level, budget and desires (daily driver), I think you could save yourself a lot of heartache by simply tweaking that underappreciated crossfire of yours.
Go to the Crossfire Injection Forum if you haven't already, and poke around there for a while before you get all gung-ho on TPI conversions. To even make the conversion worth your time and money, you'd have to get all the high flow aftermarket stuff (base, runners, etc)- and that's even more money.
Just sleep on it for a while, and bear in mind that you're looking at $1500 for the TPI swap ALONE, and that's not talking about the long block or labor to put it all together (and have it run).
One step at a time big fella. Perhaps you should just rebuild the bottom end and see where that takes you. It's easy enough to take an intake manifold off, should you find you actually have some money left over to do the swap!
:D
OH, BY THE WAY: Aside from a carb or dual throttle-body cross ram type setup (offy, Xram, etc), there is no other intake that wont involve a completely new harness and computer. And even those will require some fabrication and custom fitting to get it all together.
Take $500 and have your crossfire extrude-honed. Bore the Throttle bodies for another $80 or so, then replace all the sensors and get bigger injectors to feed it ($300+). Then get the thing tuned for another $300 or so. Adds up, don't it?
But it sure beats buying another used TPI intake ($400), more injectors($150), sensors($200), wiring harnesses & ECMs that will work ($300+), and incidentals ($200+) and THEN paying someone to do the job for you??? All to wind up with a basic 250 horse tuned port setup? :jester

while your at the engine rebuild get those heads pocket ported and a three angle valve job done , the results are well worth the money spent if done correctly

Was hoping you could answer a couple of questions.
Where can one get the custom top for the SY-1 manifold?
Do the three angle valve jobs last long on a street engine?
vettespd20, sorry about hijacking your thread.
