Default PROM burning

I'm interested in starting off at burning chips. What exactly is required as far as software and hardware to do it, and where do you buy it from? Prices roughly? Any tips on getting started here?

I did all the reading and then bought some stuff to try it out.

Used laptop from ebay (need cdrom though), loaded Win98.
Had a used pocket programmer, but have switched to a new EMP10.
Bought AT29C256 chips to burn so I don't need an EPROM Eraser.
Bought datalogging software and cable from AKM Cables. Works great for me.

I use the Pocket Programmer 2 with the latest release of their software. Don't worry they have good customer support and its all current. If you need chips I have chips and prom adapters for sale as well.

Outdated? No. It is still used by some folks on here quite well. The PP2 is more suited to Windows computers. PP is DOS based and you sometimes get errors. I found the EMP10 at a good deal locally and like using it.
