My 89 coupe has a 6 speed trans and it has the one to four feature does it automaticly from 1st gear shifts it into 4th some times it will not let me in to 2nd gear is there any way to disconect this feature?
The feature you speak of is called CAGS (Computer Aided Gear Selection). It can be disabled. There's a large blue connecter that runs next to the transmission - I believe it's on the drivers' side, but I'm not 100% sure. You can just disconnect it. If you want to make it look nice and tidy, you can get a dead terminal that either end of the connector will plug into. It's available from any of the big Corvette parts/accessories suppliers (Mid America, Ecklers, ect...). It's only used to keep the two ends of the harness from rusting out; electrical tape would probably do just as good a job.
or you can just start out in 2nd gear :blueangel: gotta love that L98 torque :D
I remember reading this suggestion in a magazine when the 6-speed was introduced, and I asked a mechanic about it. They said that while the L98 certainly has the torque to pull a standing start in second gear (even third if you wanted to), it puts more load on the clutch. So unless you want to replace your clutch more often, start off in first gear the way GM intended.
Besides, I find that the best (and easiest) way to avoid CAGS interferance is to just let the engine rev higher before changing from first to second gear. No mess, no fuss.
