Default Temperatures

I just did a flush and fill, and oil/filter change. I've only had the car for about 2 weeks, so I'm not very familiar with what temperatures are considered normal range.

When I'm just driving (freeway or city) coolant temp is about 160 - 165, and oil temp is about 170. If I get on it, or when I get off the freeway, temps go up to about 190 - 200 (coolant), and oil runs about 183. Is this average or normal, or is she running hot? What are the ranges it should be in?

It's a '85 coupe, 4+3, 92K

Thanks all - I'm learning

Those temps are perfectly normal, nothing to worry about there.

I have the same question for my '93. In traffic i run from 180-200 (depending on the day) and in dead stop parking lot traffic upto 210.

Been following this very close since i blew a rad hose on tuesday. At the time I also changed my stat, and did a flush.

Rats! nearly every post I read makes me wonder if I have got that particular problem - sort of Corvette hypochondria I suppose. Anyway this time I'm worried about temperature. I am running the same kinds of temps as stated, but my oil temp is always 10 -20 degrees hotter than the water. Is that normal?

Perfectly normal for the oil to run a bit warmer than the coolant. Don't worry, be happy.

It's nice to hear someone with normal temps. I was starting to think mine was running abnormally low. water=185 oil=200
