[Header wrap] Mine finally caught on fire :) no damage.
I wrapped my headers last night. It was the same wrap I had taken off a couple of weeks ago. I had it on the headers with no problems and even got the primaries cherry red a couple of times with no problems.
This afternoon I was about to do the valve adjustments and was idle-ing the motor when suddenly........ FIRE!!!!!
The driver side wrap was flaming up pretty good with flames up to the windshield :D
passenger side was flaming mildly to about the valve cover.
Obviously my timing was too advanced and again, the primaries got red.
I carry a fire extuinguisher in the car so I jumped like I have never jumped and put it out.
I just had to laugh after.
Going back out ther now to remove the headers and see what else is up.
White powder is extuinguisher stuff. Note black on the plug wires :D

Man you have some pretty bad luck!
Hmmm.....I didn't think of it like that.
Here they are. Circled in yellow is the actual burn location. The way it was flaming is "illustrated" in RED:D hard to tell, but this one is circled, well done
melted some of the coiled loom that went around the stereo amplifier power feeds and part of the tranny safety blanket.
Oh well. I'll fix it.

This is not a typical occurance for wrapped headers. Was something soaked into the wrap other than hi-temp header paint? I've always used hi-temp (1200 or 1400 degree paint) on my header wrap to help protect it and make it last longer. Once the paint is thoroughly dry there is no problem with it.
The only time I've had my header wrap on fire was when some other fluid soaked into it. My original engine a couple years ago began to spit oil out of it's dipstick tube onto the headers and that flamed up after it soaked into the wrap. I had a nice fore extinguisher mess like yours.
The header wrap itself should never burn without an incident like I've described. I've used bothe DEI and Thermo-tech brand wraps. I've personally found Thermo-tech easier to use.
