Default [Engine]: Tiny update.

Well yesterday was the 1st slightly nice day that co-existed with a day off I have had in a good month or more. Although of course nothing can go right, so it decided to also be the first day in a few months that my father's back acts up and had him laying on the couch in severe pain all day. :( I need him to show me how to break the glaze in #6 so that I can install the piston.

So instead all I did was use a 3M roloc disc on the deck to clean up some light surface rust that accumulated since november and also ran a 7/16-14 tap into all the head bolt holes.

Not to go off subject here, about your Dad's back. All I can say is give him all the sympathy you can "and I'm sure you do". I've injured my back and two surgerys later, still no good. I find it hard for people to understand the pain and the energy it drains from me during those episodes. Oh well, I just felt I had to mention this. Good luck getting it the vette back together and I really hope your Dad's back improves.....

He's been battling back trouble for many years so its 2nd nature for me to understand now whats going on. He has 3 disintegrated discs and can throw his back out by merely sneezing hard. When he does that he has to lay on the hardwood floor for 6 weeks. Not a fun experience every time that happens. The next step is surgury, but the doctor (Same doctor Larry Bird had for his back) has expressed a desire to hold off a long as possible.

As am I. I just need a decent day to slap the piston in with him and then I can take a couple days off of work and put the tent over the car if I have to to finish it.

Were the hell are you priorities at Scorp? Tell your boss you will be into work when the car is running :jester

Good luck getting it back rolling. I am sharing in some of that lovely back pain your father is experiencing also. Its no fun trust me. And ruins every thing you try to do. :(

Wish you both the best.

Yes, tell your boss the car is your only transportation, and that you need it to get to work because you've spent too much money on all the shoes you've worn out walking to and from work up hill both ways in the snow. :D

On the back stuff, I'm only 24 and I've broken my L5 vertebra 4 times...I definitely sympathize.

Sounds like your Dad and my Dad should get together. Pretty much the same story.

...the first day in a few months that my father's back acts up and had him laying on the couch in severe pain all day. :( I need him to show me how to break the glaze in #6 so that I can install the piston...
...Ouch!... :(

I too, like half the country, have a bad back..."Classic Sacro Strain", my present doctor calls it...

Worst attack was working on my ECM for the first time; I was upside down in pass compartment, felt OK, saw how everything was laid out, blah blah. I was watching baseball (go Yankees!) later on, and my back started hurting...Inside of two hours, I could not get up, step up stairs, or even put on my socks without screaming...I missed three days of vacation, scared myself silly (thought it was a disc), and had to find a new physician ("call back in a week if it's not better")...

...And drugs don't help... :(

Get better soon, dad!!!

**********************************

Anyway, on that cylinder scuffing: get one of the turkey-duster tools out of your dads' truck, the fine one, and just keep pushing it up & down in cylinder with low speed drill until you get a nice even cross-hatch pattern with no large mirror surfaces...I use thin oil to lube while scuffing, then clean out good with kerosene (my old cleaning agent)...Wash out oil pan good, too (unless you took pan off)...

There are those who disagree, but I always use iron rings...They seat almost instantly, and it's doubtful you'll need any ring that lasts 100,000 miles...
