I cannot find the coil wire (or a part number) for a 1996 LT1. The GM parts lists do not show it. The coil and coil wire are definately different in 1996 only from the other LT1's. I found the coil but not the wire.
Pls help.
Thanks,
You'll probably have to by a new set to get a coil wire. I bought a MSD 8.5mm set and the place I bought it from had to call MSD to send the correct coil wire. You can't get a MSD blater 2 coil either, it has the wrong connections for the 96. Good luck. :banghead:
btw: It's a dual female connector with straight boot on one end (approx 3in boot, goes on opti) and a curved boot on the other (approx 4in boot curved 90deg at 2in, goes on coil; wire is approx 12in long).

Yup... MSD tried 3 times to make me a correct coil wire for my 96, they screwed it up each time... Finally had to make a coil wire out of two of the three they sent me (wrong connectors)...
I, too, am dissapointed in MSD coil wire. I had to finally just get a new GM wire to go with the other 8.5 MSD. I probably will try another brand later down the road.
When I bought my MSD wire set, it took 4 calls to MSD and I finally got someone on the phone who asked me what I needed; I gave length and connector he had it made and sent along. Although it was a long process, MSD did send me 4 different wires at their expense, until they got it right. They tried.
These numbers are for my 1996 LT4, but I think they are the same for a LT1.
Coil Wire #12192000
Coil #10489421
The stock 96-97 LT1/4 coils are just as good as MSD (probably better), they just aren't that pretty red color.
MSD sent me the wrong coil wire 2 or 3 times, I'd tell them the type of connections needed on each end and the length, but could they get it right....... Nada.
Ya, What's up with MSD?
I ordered a Set of Wires for my LT4 and ended up Cutting 2 Boots off.. and Remounting two 90's in the place of the straight boots For Cylinder 6 and 8. NO CLEARANCE WHAT SO EVER TO PUT THE STRAIGHT ONES ON. :mad
Then the 2 Different Coil Wires they included were wrong. I have made two different phone calls to MSD about the Coil wire. They are on the second one now. Hopefully this will be the right one. You would think for a $80 set of wires they could get you the right kit. Next time I'll just buy the bulk wire, boots and make up my own set.
ALSO.... Your stock wire keepers will not fit the new wires. Buy a Replacement set. This will save ya lots of headaches trying to get the babies to fit. :banghead:
Thanks, folks. The posted gm number for the coil wire is correct. It will come in as a red wire however, since the LT4 the same parts. What a mess. Don't trust any aftermarket supplier of these parts, they WILL be wrong!

Not all... I replaced the MSDs with Taylor 8mm Spiral Pro wires... Those gave me no problems...
