Default MAT relocation on L98..any problems?

Hi everyone,
Not looking for any fake free HP but was considering moving the MAT sensor to the filter area.Wanted to know if there was any problems with doing so.

Main reason I ask is because I had pulled off the plenum and the MAT sensor wire plug was resting on the intake and the plastic lock connector broke off(brittle, old) I guess and it wont stay put.So I need to fix this connecter and was wondering if the MAT relocating improves Hot start up conditions as well.Figured might as well move it if there is no problems doing so.

Wont mind the ease of access to change/remove sensors either!!
:)

I have had mine in the front of my Ram Air setup for about 3 years without any issues.

By the way, teh MAT should have barely any effect on a hot start condition.. Check your fuel injectors for leaking for that..

I have had no problems since I relocated mine for the hot start problem but I can't honestly say that the hot start issue is any better.Ambient mid day temps rarely go below 70 so it is always hot under hood.Still takes a bit of cranking when hot where as cold it fires without hardly turning over.
You need to fix it so do it.

Hey Bill,

I read some stuff recently that noted the MAT in 86-89 applications is only used for EGR (confirmed) and some startup conditions (somewhat between hear-say and confirmed). This was from some PROM hackers on another board.

If you do it, do it because like you saiid, it will be easier to change out later if needed. Good luck, -Matt

Thanks to all that replied...I think I will get the kit later.I still dont know the best place on the box to install it but will find what the instructions says and then see for myself if I want it someplace else.
