Re: Corvette or Trans AM?? (vettespd20)
OK OK OK
How can any one vote for the Trans AM, Its not even in the same league as the corvette. Maybe compairing the camaro to the TA or the mustang to the TA but not a vette. Thanks for ur in put but ur mistaken.
CORVETTES RULE

Well, depending on what you compare to... Plain Jane T/A against Plain Jane Vette??? No brainer there, I got rid of a 97 T/A for a 96 Corvette...
Now would I take an 84 Corvette over an 89 Turbo T/A??? No...
One of each is the way to go. But since I'd take my 89 TTA over my 95 6-speed, I'd definately take the TTA over an 84 Vette. The TTA is very rare and an awesome machine. Dont get me wrong ,Vettes are extreamly cool, but there are a lot of them out there. Less than 1500 TTA's left by now on the planet. Thanks Pat

CORVETTES RULE
Corvettes rule but the '89 Turbo TA will outperform it. One of the Youngers is still successfully campaining an '89 TA in the SCCA Solo II F-Stock class.
i am in between in this one...i have owned and still do my ol' 70'pontiac tempest and am supposed to compare it to the vette!? we all have our points but my pontiacs much faster than my 87' was, by far. its pre-smog w/a 469cid PONTAIC not a BBC! its fast but can't corner, has no luxury options anymore,no powersteering(yikes!),mixed matched parts..has soft ride but everything else just doesn't compare to the prestiege, and beauty and remakable allaround perfomance the corvette has to offer! yes,my pontiac is faster, thats what i put my money into first casue thats what i had first. the vette is more of a status symobol that is easily recongnizeable and not everyone can have a corvette either!they are special in there own ways.either car can be made fast, thats not the point....i guess the point is that the corvette is the most recognizable sports/muscle car in the world hands down. :yesnod: just my 2cents

OK,
You have voted for you TTA.
I'll take that shinny red Vette off your hands :hurray:
I personally love the first Bandit TA ! I think it is the hottest looking car ever made. Sure it wont outrun or out handle too many Vettes but it is a looker ! !
I'd take a 69 RA-IV Trans Am coupe or vert any day over a C4 but it would be close between it and a ZR1. Funny sidenote. I actually traded a 95 trans am for a 90 6 speed vette [coupe] and 3 years later traded the vette for a 99 6 speed trans am. 2 weeks after that trade I was sick about it. I sold the 99 TA and tracked my old vette down and bought it back 6 months later. I then traded the 90 for my 96 LT4 but I still miss it.
I cant speak for everyone but if I loved T/A's more than vettes, (after the psychological exam) I would sell my vette buy back my GTA and pay ridiculous money for an 02 T/A then I could hang out on F-body.com and would avoid these "whats better" questions. :jester
You are lucky! I'd love to have a turbo Trans Am. I had a notchback GTA for a couple of years and thought of looking for a turbo but got a Supra turbo and then went for the vette.
The 305 ran out of breath real early although it would push you back in your seat up to about 60. I had heard that the TTA would outrun any C4 up to an LT1. Is that true?
I had to vote for the TTA. I absolutely love those, but I just didn't want to have one for a daily driver, so I bought the vette instead. I will have a TTA someday though. :yesnod:
I would also have to vote for the TTA. It was an awesome car. There isn't too many compared to your run of the mill '84 Vette. It was also the Indy Pace Car that year. TTA gets my vote, which is rare because Vettes are the best car ever made IMO. But for collectibility I'd say TTA. Daily driver Vette.

Ya you know what some people in this forum give corvettes a bad image. All the rude comments and the rude votes COME ON GROW UP. I am 21 and i have more sense than some people in here. I asked the question for one reason, my friend has a 85 TA and my cousin has a 88 TA GTA and my other friend has a 76 VETTE. They told me to put it on here to see what happend so its just fun. Thanks to all the good and logical responces. THANKS

I feel especially qualified in answering this question since i currently own a 1964 327/365hp 4-spd corvette, a 1993 LT1 corvette (soon to be 383 stroker), and a 1978 400 WS6 4-speed trans-am...
to answer your quesiton I would say it depends on what you want a car for..
the fastest in the 1.4 mile by far is the T/A.. now i have dumped the 400 motor and dropped in a custom stroker motor, replaced the stock alum. T-10 with new close ratio gears and a cast iron case, added ram-air phase IV heads (fully ported) and warrior chief intake.. needless to say the car kicks butt and runs 7.5-7.9's on radial tires on an 1/8 mile track all day long with now problems... this is with the stock 3.23 gears!
now the '64 is a dream car.... its got some giddyup and people love the looks.. but in all honesty this is the slowest car of the three... but it gets the most attnetion when I take it out.. its just beautiful and I cant say enough about it!!!!!
the '93 is really the all around performer of my group... its respectable at the strip, yet its driven daily to work.. gets 18 mpg city and 21+ highway..
it handles and brakes the best out of the three. it also has the quitest exhaust to make the commute nice.. the tunes are adequate (although the BOSE has obivous issues) the seats rock, the brakes are better than most and the LT1 design is to this day, in my option, a fantastic small block design (reverse flow cooling)...
but... when i want to let it all hang out... and really flex my manhood... its the screaming chicken all the way...
