Default Dana 36 Rear End Swap...

Will a late model C4 (92-96) Dana 36 bolt up in place of my 85 Dana 36? I've found one locally and want to swap because the donor dana is 3.75 and I have 2.73 now. Any difference between the two? Any mods required to fit? Will this work?

The 36 in my '92 took a.........dive (u thought I was gonna use a different word huh?) I dropped the 36 out of the '84, had it rebuilt, deeper gears and just bolted it right into my '92, no problems, no mods, pure cake......

I thought I had read somewhere that the holes on the C-beam differed somewhat on later C4s vs. earlier C4s, but I can't confirm this. I replaced my '91 dana 36 with a dana 36 out of an '89 with no problems :yesnod:

the holes on the C beam do differ from the 36 to the 44, the 44 has a longer front portion of the case, maybe that's what ur remembering?

Are you swapping in the entire rear end or just the center section? The latter rear end is wider by 1" per side then your original rear end and it may cause a problem with your rims not fitting under the fenders. If your swapping in the center section only, it will fit but you will need to modify your lower control arm mounting brackets. The latter rear end uses larger bolts for the control arm mounts. You can either drilling a larger hole to use the latter rear end bolts or you can make a bushing to fit in the rear end that allows you to use the original bolts.

The one I am looking at includes the center section and the batwing. Can I remove the batwing and just swap out the center section?

Yes, you can use your original batwing but you will still need to drill out the original holes in your batwing or make a bushing for the center section to match the smaller batwing holes where the lower control arms mount. The batwng holes were made larger in 1988.
