Default 88 ECM Question

Hey guys,

I've been looking around for a cheap spare ECM (found a few, not looking anymore) and have noticed a lot of people sell their ECM's as "86-89", "84-89", etc.

Is this correct? I would think there would be a difference between the 88 and 89 due to the cold start injector. I'm aware that the ECM doesn't control the cold start injector itself, but I thought that the ECM made the main 8 injectors compensate. Am I wrong about this?

If there's truly no difference between the 88 and 89 as these sellers suggest then I believe I've found a problem in my fuel delivery system. I'll stick to my other thread about that.. just have to find a way to word the question right to get some answers.

There's no difference in the ECM itself between 88-89. The difference is in the Memcal and the PROM. Actually the ECM's are the same from '86 to '89. The '84 is not the same, and neither is the '85. Here is a link to some info on different GM ECM's: http://www.diy-efi.org/gmecm/ecm_info/

It's possible to run the .bin file from an '89, in an '88 and remove the cold start injector.
