Since you have a 95 you will have to use a programmer to change speedo calibration. 93 I believe is last year you could just change gear. As for shops maybe another forum member could help you in your area. someone suggested a offroad company since they deal with 36/44 diff and probably wont charge you as much. Some people put that vette tax on you.
...can i change the fitting in the tranny? (6 speed) or do i need to get a programmer for the comp? or both? please enlighten me. :D
It's my understanding that you can change the speedo gear on a 95 or 96, it's a stick so it works, 94-96 auto trans need a reprogram to work after a gear change. BTW, I paid $200 to reprogram my PCM, he did lots of other good stuff besides the gear ratio adjustment (fans, !CAGS, !rear O2s, etc). The speedo gears cost ~$100 so I went for the reprogarm. You can get a used HyperTech for $200, just another option.

Eric,
From what I've been told, you have it backwards. Auto = speedo gears.
6sp = speedo reprogram. No choices here.
Also, from what I've picked up, a used HyperTech reprogrammer is useless for anything but returning a re-programmed car back to stock. (unless it's been used to de-program....)
Someone correct me if I'm wrong....

I know for a fact that on my 96 six speed I could have changed the speedo gears. I used a hypertech to change them at first (which I purchased used from a forum member), then when a reflash from someone with with LT1 edit software.
The electronic controlled 4L60e uses speed to set the shift points and I use a Hypertech to reprogram my 96 Impala (which has the exact same PCM as a 96 Vette). I've never heard of anyone changing the speedo gears on a 94-96 to compensate for a gear swap. I'm pretty sure you're wrong.

As for a used Hypertech only being good for returning a reprogrammed PCM to stock tuning, that's flat out incorrect. I've purchased and sold used Hypertechs, they worked just like the manual said. On this point I'm 100% sure.
