Default Hotwire Cooling Fan

Hey Folks.

I just pulled my hypertech chip out and went back to the stock one. (Just couldn't get the car to set decent timing with it in this year. (Do they go bad?)

But... I've still got the 160 degree sensor for the aux fan installed. So it's coming on at 160 and the other one isn't coming on at all (but it will when I go racing this weekend...)

I want to use the aux fan switch to run both the relay for the aux fan and the regular fan so they go on together at 160.

Is it possible to just jumper off the "go" signal wire on the aux relay (green / white?) to the "go" signal (green /white? )on the reg. fan relay? Will the computer freak or accept it?

I know the right way to fix this is with a properly programmed chip, but I don't have time before going racing this weekend.

Thanks

I'm no expert, but i see no problem with doing that. Leaving the original wire there also should allow for ac to kick in the fan when ac turned on. I'm sure someone will chime in and set you straight. Good Luck !!

Thanks for the bump to the top, Agent 86.

The main thing I'm worried about is if the hotwire to the other relay will cause problems back to the ECM. I don't want to fry an ECM doing this.

We should follow what the NASCAR guys do and put a switch panel in with fan and electric water pump switches. It does away with the automatic functions of normal driving so you'll have to teach people how to drive it. Better yet, nobody will ask because it will be too confusing and that could be a good thing. How did I get started on this?

SHansen,
Look in the TOOLS=>TECH TIPS=>C4's.
Jim (65Z01) did a write-up on how to make your main fain be controlled by the lower temp aux fan switch. I did it to mine, and I never see temps over 200º. (My Aux fan switch is set to come on at 190º)

We need a smiley for a big DUH and a slap to the forehead.

I went through a few searches on the archives, with moderate success. I didn't realize that that Tools section even existed until you pointed it out.

EXACTLY what I was looking for - thanks Tim and Jim. :hurray:

Britvette - thanks for the diode tip too. I have a lighting idea for that tip....

Gee - Looks like my afternoon's gonna get blown reading through all these cool tech tips.
