:iagree: with Strick - invite a whole bunch of forum friends over, pick it up & turn it over and shake it :D

Seriously, have you tried a Shop Vac? The larger models with the small hose adapter have a end that will fit up pretty well and should be able to suck anything out if it isn't lodged somewhere - i.e., if it fell freely and hasn't been pushed into a position where it gets caught. Good luck, Paul :flag

Damn this sounds familiar, What worked for me was a 2 amp shop vac 2 feet of 3/8 fuel line and alot of duct tape to seal the fuel line to the vac hose. Once you have that set up, its time to act like a doctor in the bronks doing abortions... stick it in there and suck out that mistake.

I would like to offer a variation on the Shop Vac suggestions. Don't worry about the duct tape. Feed whatever hose is most suitable down the tubes, switch on the Shop Vac, and place its hose over they one fed in. Seal the gap between the two with your hands or a towel. Actually, hands do a pretty good job. By not attaching the big and little hoses, its easier to maneuver the small hose. Also, be sure to empty the Shop Vac first so it is easy to find the lost pieces.
Good luck.

Most shower liners will have donut magnets on the bottom to help weigh them down and also stick to the side of some tubs to prevent water from making a mess. Check your shower curtain liner and if you have one that has magnets, take one of the bolts that you didnt slide into the #8 runner and see if the magnet is strong enough to hold onto the bolt. If it is, all you need to do is tie a string on the donut magnet if it is strong enough to pick up the bolt.

That must be one of the funniest things I have read in a long time too!

These photos are probably not going to help you very much :(

These aren't going to be very helpful, but here they are!!

OK, got home and did some scientific "bench testing". Every plenum screw I dropped down #7 came out of the intake like a kid on a waterslide.... there's just no obstructions in there at all.
Now...... if the valve is closed, they have to be in the intake port somewhere on the valve. This doesn't look like a big problem unless they're tucked away in the short radius, but even then I think a rubber hose and a shop vac would do the trick. In looking at the angles, I think it would be good to use as big as a 5/8ths hose, 'cause everything is a pretty straight shot. The runner is 11" long from the plenum opening to the manifold gasket surface, and the intake port is a nominal 6" to the valve stem, so you can judge your hose accordingly.

If the valve is open, then what's your max lift, and what are the chances those little machine screws went thru??????? I dunno...... maybe 50/50 at most, cause you're only at max lift very briefly and you got kind of a steep ramp.......... If the valve is open, I'd fill the plug hole and still try to suck them out by creating a little vacuum chamber in the entire runner/port/cylinder area. If that's unsuccessful, I think you'd be OK with a magnet thru the plug hole as long as you're slow and deliberate.

Here are some pics of the cylinder head port. The ones I took of the runners and manifold port just don't show anything (like I said, it's a straight shot down there) dialups beware:

This is the suspect port:

This is a closeup of the port and valve, note the short radius:

And since I had the SR out of the closet, this one is just to show off

Lots of good ideas here, I have seen them all work at one time or another. Personally I like the shop vac idea. Keep in mind what an intake runner on a SBC head does at the valve, it turns down very quickly, essentially leaving a recessed bowl area where the valve sits. It can be difficult to fish in there effectively, especially when it's very possible getting one can push the others in to a tight spot.

I once saw a guy pull a towel out from under an intake through the distributor hole

So be patient and heed the advice given.

Will do. Thanks. I'm on my way to Harbor Freight and Sears to see if I can find some snakes with magnets on them. We'll try that route first before I start tearing this damn thing apart. :D :D :D

Hey Shayne, judging from the distributor, you're close to #1 or #6. Tell us if the timing mark is close to TDC. If so, then #7 intake is closed; if not, then it's open and # 7 exhaust is closed. That info will definately help your plan of attack!

The distributor looks like it is pointing at either #2 or #1 firing position. That could be a couple of things.

18436572

If 1 is about to fire 7 intake is closed. If 6 is about to fire 7 I think is at the top of the exhaust stroke so the intake should be closed also. Does that sound right?

Lets see....... if 1 is about to fire, 7 has to be on the exhaust stroke and the intake closed.
If 6 is about to fire, then 7 would be on the intake stroke and the exhaust closed.......
If his distributor hasn't been reset 180*, then it looks like he's OK I would think.......

Well it depends on how close 6 is to firing (if the dist is off 180). 7 could be at the top of exhaust with the intake still closed.

I glanced over these post quickly so I have no idea if this was posted.

What would I do?
Well first I would put my sears magnet down there (the telescoping one). that thing can pull a wrench out of the frame no problem.

Second, I would mod it to fit if it does not fit.

Third, if it did not work, I would remove the valve cover and see if the damn valve was open. if indeed the valve is shut, and the magnet failed, I would have the shop vac taped into there sucking that sucker out.

Yeah, I thought about that.......I think he's in good shape regardless. It just depends on how far open/closed that valve would be if that's #6.

Now, if that was my luck...................

Hey sspackman, what about the bolt didn't fit? I missed that part.
This was just a weird idea I had and talk about lucky. I am a hobbiest too, so I have that really thin fuel tubing like you use on model airplanes and helicopters. I put the end piece of the heavy duty magnet 1/2" up into the tubing and then let that just fall down in there. Guess what:

Again, a big beer to all those who pitched in here with ideas. By the way, I did go to Harbor Freight and they had one of those telescoping things with the magnet, but it didn't work.

Now as for using this in gynecology...I'm now working on a patent that will help for many things, most of which can't and should not be discussed here :jester

Thanks,
Shayne
