i just got my brand new V1 and man that thing is cool. i want to mount it under my mirror with the kit that ecklers has. any ideas on this? anyone else found a better place to mount it? and i want to hardwire it to the car. for those of you who have done this, which wire and where did you use to get your switch only power? thanks fellas. :steering:
I had my passport mounted high (under rearview mirror) but that didn't work out to well.I would always miss the alerts because of loud music, and in broad daylight the warning light wouldn't catch my eye.Now I have it mounted directly above the center of my steering wheel. On the windshield but in direct field of view. It's so small that it doesn't block my vision but you can't miss it when it lights up.This way you can keep the sound turned off so as not to disturb the passenger or have to explain the beep was a radar door.I have the power cord pushed down between the windshield and dash.Hard wired to the fuse box.

I just ran my hardline from the passenger side fuse box up through the cracks and up under windshield insulation up the right side until it came above the rear view mirror then dropped it down to the detector.

This is similar to what I did, except that I used the accessory wire hook up available under the center console and ran the wire up the driver's side. The advantage here is that you can install the necessary wiring for the V1 remote which I have velcroed to the dash ledge in front of the main instrument panel (right side). I use the suction cups that came with the V1 and mount it high and slightly to the right of the rear view mirror. The V1 "sees" front & rear but is hardly noticeable from the outside, even when the top is off.
to agent 86, or whoever knows this. which wire in all that mess is the hot one and which one is the ground? i see a blue wire, black wire, yellow wire, and a green wire. which is which? please help me. great idea too. please help soon cause my car is tore apart as we speak. thanks. :smash:
Use the V1 mount sold by Great Lakes Trophy (you can find them on the web). It is a high quality piece and runs about $20. It attaches to the mirror mount by using the mirror mount screw. Very stable and strong, and it positions the V1 perfectly under the mirror.
Run your wire from your surplus center console lead and take it under the dash to the passenger side. Come up the post by putting the wire under the plastic trim, and do likewise coming across the top, burying the wire behind the trim piece. The wire emerges right where your mirror is, and is clipped into the V1. There is absolutely no wire visible if you do this cleanly. I used a small black nylon wire lock to hold the wire tight to the mounting bracket
I did mine a couple of years ago, and it is a very professional look on which I have recieved many compliments. Folks don't know there's a detector until they actually get seated in the car and I reach up to turn it on. No one can really see the V1 from outside when it is mounted this way, it rides high for good range, but is aimed perfectly, right under the solar strip on the WS. The mirror clearance is perfect. If you want to remove the V1 from the car you reach up and unclip your power line, and the V1 in it's entirety slips right off the bracket.
There are picture of the barcket and of the bracket installed on the Great Lakes website. Its shows a C5, but it works perfectly well in a C4 as well.
I couldn't imagine a nicer install, and it definitely beats the bejezus out of suction cups.
Good luck. The V1 has saved me a few times, for sure.

I can't remember offhand but i can tell you that if you pop both sides open you can see the hot wire on the switch. From there you can follow it to the light and see which is the ground and which is hot. Make sure you tap into the input side of the switch. Once you have a good look in there i'm sure you will figure it out.
