Another 4+3 problem...chattering noise
My warrenty just expired last month and the shop I first took it to screwed it up twice and now this.
Does anybody (esp Scorp since you've been thru this) experienced this noise and know what it might be and if it's easy to repair.
The OD has many springs in it, I believe I've read somewhere (www.5speeds.com???) that they are prone to break...If this happened, it would apply uneven pressure to the friction material in the OD, which may very well chatter under acceleration, like you describe...
Lemme think...David-F had a guide to 4+3 rebuilds...Maybe someone will recall the URL...
Edit: Here it is - http://corvetteactioncenter.com/foru...threadid=10459
And another at - http://www.gearzone.net/nash.htm
...Uh, oh...Reading this last site, I think you gots an expensive problem... :(

Maybe I should think about a 6-speed thanks though

While at idle I can hear a faint rattling sound
When the clutch is depressed it goes completly away
When I take off at normal acceleration from a stop light, there is an odd sound (hard to describe) followed by rattling sound (sounds like ball bearings rattling in a can)
If I take off at WOT there is a very loud rattling sound which seems go away or at least barely noticable when I release the pedal and let the tranx shift into 4-OD.
So know I know that the rattling sound goes away when the clutch is depressed and sometimes makes an odd grinding sound when stop to go, and rattles all the time and very loud when WOT accelerating.....
Does this sound like an idling gear in the manual section?
