OK, so am I doing something wrong? Seems like I have to adjust my parking brake as often as I fill up. As I have a manual tranny, I count on the parking brake whenever I leave the car running. Most automatics never use it. So why do I have to readjust it twice a season or more?
Are you making the adjustment at the cable tensioner or the adjusting star through the access hole in the drum?
The proper adjustment is done using both.
Drum? I am adjusting the tensioner. Mine has 4 wheel discs...what drum?
The rear has a drum/disc combo. Inside the there are a small pair of shoes.
Pull the wheel, line up access hole to 12 oclock. Then use a flat blade screw driver to turn the adjusting star to set the shoes. Good Luck !!
84-87 use an inside drum for the parking brake. 88-96 uses a system that engages the rear calipers for the parking brake.
Put the rear up in the air and take the tires off. You want to adjust the star wheels until it drags the inner brake shoes when you turn the hubs and then back off 1 or 2 clicks.
