I've got an 87 with 87,000 miles. Even after a tuneup, it will knock a bit when you really get on it. When my old 84 Chevy pickup got to about the same mileage, it had a similar problem. The dealer recommended a product by GM called Top End Cleaner. You poured it down the carb and waited a while. Then after you started it, there was an awful smell/smoke, but the thing ran great! Is there a similar product I can use on the Corvette?
I've been riduculed enough over this so NO FLAMES PLEASE.
PLEASE, let's don't start ANOTHER discussion on whether or not some of these 'fixes in a bottle' work or not. :cuss
YMMV but I use Marvel Mystery Oil in my fuel. It is an "upper cylinder" lubricant and cleaner.
It keeps crud off your valve stems and outta your combustion chambers including piston tops.
I use GM top engine cleaner a couple times a year and love it. I use a funnel and tube directly into the throttle body. Just follow the instructions on the can. Be careful, the stuff eats paint, including the garage floor, but I recommend doing it outside anyway. The more smoke you get, the better the car will run after the smoke burns off.
Yea...just take aa mixture of water and antifreeze and suck it in through a vacuum hose on the throttle body. Run about two gallons through and it will be as clean as new. (Well...close to it anyway).
In fact...I just got the urge and ran two gallons of water/antifreeze mix through mine.
The neighbors didnt even notice much since it is raining outside. :)
I guess we'll see if the pinging goes away on the next hot dry day that comes along.
