Cannot get oil pan on
Okay all,
This has tobe one of the dumbre questions, but right now frustratation is setting in.
Completely tore down my L98 and wnet through it after a camshaft install mistake.
I am trying to get it back together today and cannot get the oil pan on.
I chucked the old oil pump and cannot look at it to see what the difference is.
I bought one pump via Summit Racing and their 350 refresh kit. I thought perhaps that was the problem, so I went to my local Oreilly store and bought another for my 1985 vettte. They proved to be identical. I cannot get the pan on over either one of them, with the pick up in it.
I even tried taking the horizontal baffle out. Still no.
Does the 85 L98 have a special pick up? The auto store does not show anything.
Anyhelp here is appreciated.

If you're using a Melling pump the M55 is the standard pump and the M55HV is the high volume one.
Both use the MEL-55S3 pickup screen when used in a 85 Corvette.
If you go to http://www.summitracing.com and input MEL-55S3 you'll see it sells for around $13.00.

Let me see if I have any pics of my oil pump layin around here somehwhere... It should be no different though. Rear main bearing cap is isn't hung up? Nylon or steel coupling is snapped in place on the distributor shaft?

I had some problems on a new milodon pan that wouldn't seat just right. The oil pump was bumping into the inside of the rear of the pan causing a clearance issue.
A ballpeen hammer and some trial and error took care of that. :D
