Default Catalytic Converters

I am in Maryland, where we have emissions testing, so I need to keep converters on the car. My whole exhaust is off right now, and I was wondering if it is worth buying the Random Tech high flow cats, or should I just put the stock (70,000 miles on them) converters back on? I already know from other forum members that full length headers with a y-pipe and single converter is not going to work out on an automatic LT1 car, so I will probably go with the Hooker shorties, converters, and a good cat back system. Has anyone had any good results from the Random Tech converters, or should I save the money and put the old ones back on? I'm sure new GM ones probably cost more than the Random Tech ones anyway.

IMHO as long as your stock cats are not stopped up, then you will be wasting money replacing them. By the way, TPIS shows a LT header system that uses 1 cat for the LT1 cars (92-96) I believe it is basicially their headers with a L98 style exhaust system.

I live in Md also, I recently installed headers (HOK-2149) and replaced the front two precats with a 3" Y-pipe that I bought with the headers, I left the main Cat for emissions. IMHO adding the headers and removing the pre cats made a huge differnece in the SOTP feelng taking off from the line. Also my AVG gas mileage before 16mpg, after 21.4 mpg, so I believe the pre cats were at least partially clogged, by the way the car has 76 k miles. I haven't retested emissions since but from what I've read it shouldn't be an issue with the main cat and smog equipment still on the car. my 2 cents.

:iagree: LT1/4/5 cats are completely different than the L98. You're just wasting money by swapping them out.
