I getting ready to redo my 84 vette engine. Now I know there are so many things I can do but I'm looking for some good solid advice on what worked for you. I don't mind going to rad as long as I can get someone who know what there doing to burn a chip for me. I can't decide between extrude honed, X-ram. What cam to get, or anything else. I'm no expert but I do have good engine sence. Maybe a whole new motor, 383 stroker, ZZ4, ???????? Please help, any direction would be helpful. Keep in mind I do live in Cali.
Well the Crossfire Injection Forum is truely your best resource (do a Yahoo! search), but I can tell you that the lowest common denomenator will be either a heavy porting of the stock manifold (so so increase) or to replace it with an Offenhouer crossram manifold. The Offy is a similar design but with much, much more flow and minor custom work to get it to fit (custom lid or linkages I think). The Xram is a more stock-appearing concept with decent gains but not as much as a completed offy would be. Both will require bored out throttle bodies to 2" or more for max effect. Heads and cam upgrades are the obvious to take advantage of any intake mods.
I did the aftermarket TPI swap and am happy with it- but it was expensive and relatively complicated. a good SOTP improvement for virtually no cash would be Offy/Xram, Bored TB's and a more aggressive cam. The Xram should look virtually indistinguishable from stock under the air cleaner on the `84 (since you have visual inspections?)- but I doub't many could spot the offy either...
