Default Finally Blower Pictures

Gents,
This is the blower that I installed in late June to replace the old D-1 that I used to run on my 87 roadster.

Here is a picture of the aluminum bracket that I made to hold the procharger mocked up on a spare motor. Procharger did not make a bracket that would mount this blower into a C4. The bracket is 1/2" aluminum. Blower is held in place with seven (7) 5/16" bolts. Due to the size of the blower, and space limitations, I had to "tilt" the blower over towards the wheel (if it were mounted straight up, it would have exceeded the height of the hood). There is ~3/16" between the valvecover and the outside of the blower. The air divertor tube had to go. The hoodmount had to be relocated to the passenger side of the engine bay.

All accesories mounted. The D1 blower install had the idler on the alternator mount which only provided ~270 degrees belt wrap, but the old P-600 install installs the idler as a stand alone. I tucked everything in closer, rotated the alternator mount slightly upward, utilized a 95.6" drive belt and now have <320 degrees of belt wrap on the blower pulley. The blower pulley and the idler are 0.2" apart (you have to remove the idler to install or remove the drive belt). There seems to be no slip to date.

The belt is slack in this picture, but when installed and pulled taught, there is approx 3/8" between the belt area that could possibly contact each other.

The blower installed in the car. I still need to revise the air inlet to the drivers air where the battery was located. I have already relocated the battery to under the passenger speaker area. Still a bit of work to be done, but the blower does fit. Which ATI said it would not (one of the primary reasons that I attempted the install).

The car drives well and the mount is solid. I am considering powdercoating or anodizing black the bracket and spacers (and possibly the Procharger). The unit is actually very quiet, relative to the old D1. The pulley is sized to make max impellor speed at 6500 RPM. Car runs very well considering that I am loosing timing due to cam walk.

I am presently awaiting the new timing chain cover and oil pan. I should have all of that in place by next weekend.

Hope you like.
Aaron

Aaron did you order the one I have or did you go with another one. I think that is going to cure your cam walk problems. Not only does the timing cover flex but those aluminum bottons become galled the bearings are much better.

Bart,
I ordered the Comp Cams new three piece TC cover (supposedly released in like the last 3 months). I also get the new roller bearing (0.680" in length) with the cover. At the same time, I am replacing the oil pan with a new Canton stroker, trap door, windage pan. I have been running a factory pan, for the stealth factor, yet I think for some reason, I am way beyond the stealth factor now. All parts should be here middle of next week and hopefully I will get it all replaced next weekend.

On a side note, how much boost are you seeing with your new blower? What heads are you running? If I remember correctly, you are running a fairly small head, valves and cam combo. Has this changed? I still am not seeing a huge amount of boost, but it runs like a bear.

Thanks,
Aaron

I have the blower set for 15lbs. but I'm having problems with detonation at that level. Runs good on the race gas but I put about 75 miles on my car last night using race gas for cruising around is like the monkey pissing on the cash register IT SOON RUNS INTO THE MONEY
I did get a little action last night. I killed a 03 Stang with several mods but not sure just what all had been done to it. Also ran an older model Trans-am with a 455 in it. This was on the way home from a car show that I went to. I won an award for best engine :)

Bart,
I was just curious on the top end of your mill, as it seems you are not having any issue with getting boost (how much boost are you seeing?). It still is quite difficult to see higher levels in my combo on "Yellow". It is probably due to the heads, cam, intake that I run. They are quite far beyond what most would consider for a street car. What cam is it that you are running? Cam C/L? Heads are AFR, but if I remember correctly, I thought they were the 190's, that may also contribute to the higher boost level for you application. I think your intake is the same, just mine has had a lot of welding and epoxy work to get the flow over 330 cfm.

Just trying to get a realistic comparision. I am considering increasing the boost further. Remember, I run that larger ATI on the 18° motor in my '89. That unit has no problem with making in excess of 18 lbs boost, but also has more compression and runs more CFM (~2,700) from the blower.

Thoughts?

Bart,
Thanks for the IM. The comparison of our two combos (yours vs "yellow")just goes to show all the differences that will work in these type applications. Our blowers are pretty similar, but the haeds, cam, and intake are dramatically different. They both seem to be very streetable, yet I use my cam to reduce the effective compression, and hold off detonation.

Thanks again for the reply,
Aaron
