Has anyone flushed there power steering system....? The fluid just doesn't look right, and would like to try this before replacing pump... The HOW TO would also be helpful and much appreciated...

....The fluid just doesn't look right.....
If the fluid appears "foamy" it may be due to a low fluid level in the reservoir causing air to be mixed in with he fluid. Adding fluid will cure that problem.

If you are going to drain the fluid, just remove the hose and refill. To bleed the system,
start the engine and let in run for about 10 seconds, then shut it down and add more fluid, if necessary. Run the engine again while turning the wheel from lock-to-lock several times.
Shut the engine down and add more fluid, if necessary.

I did the lazy man's method...I bought a couple of bottles of synthetic power steering fluid...used a turkey baster and sucked out one bottle's worth and put one bottle of new fluid in...drove it for a week...repeated the process and drove it for a month...repeated it one more time...

Let me give you another possible way to "flush" the power steering.
1. Jack up the front of the car where you can get under it.
2. Remove the "return" line from the reservoir and plug the inlet so that fluid does on leak out.
3. Place a pan or catch container under the car and route the return line (from the reservoir) so that the oil drains in the pan.
4. The oil will slowly drain out. Put about one quart through the reservoir and just let it drain.
5. Turn the wheels all the way to the left, and pour about 1/2 quart through.
6. Do the same for turning to the right.
7. Remove the inlet plug and reconnect the return line.
You have now flushed the system. I have used this method for years and it just takes a little time.

:iagree:
I just did mine a couple of weeks ago. I pulled the fuel pump fuse, then pulled the return line and put it in a small plastic bottle. I then turned the engine over till almost emptying res. Refilled res. and repeated a few more times.
