Just wanted to say "Hi". What a cool forum, LOTS of good info and opinions. I've already wired manual fan switches, researched tires, and started thinking about what I'm going to do with my crappy audio.
Bought (rescued) a 91 6-spd. coupe from a "family member" a couple of months ago. The poor baby had been hit in the pass. front and had sat in his driveway for about 3 years on flat tires with the battery panel hanging. So after lusting for this car most of this time my wife finally convinced me to buy it.
"Sure, it'll run, all it needs is a new battery" He said. Even though I knew better, I've bought other cars from him, I bought a battery and put it in. A couple of days later, after we had towed it home and pushed it up into my garage, I started to tear into it. The gas tank had a gallon and half of water and other funky looking crud in it. But what a joy to clean, just pop the top off the tank dip it out with a coffee cup and polish it up with a towell. Then with a new fuel pump and filter, I got it to run on 3 cylinders. After a compression check found a broken pushrod and stuck intake valve on #2. Also 4 dead injectors, duuhhh. "I don't understand, I drove it 2 months ago"!! Yeah sure you did buddy, and cows can fly too.
Got about 800 miles on it so far, looks like crap but runs great, man I love that 6 spd and muffler delete. It's not nearly as loud as I thought it would be, sounds great. Some body work this month and new paint next month. and tires--and shocks-- and brakes and ----------
Very nice. Need to see some pics. In fact you will want to take pics all along the way because once you have it all fixed up you will want some before and after shots.
You'll get a lot of satisfaction out of fixing up an abused baby. :yesnod:
Just take your time and look for bargains here and on Ebay. If you pay retail for everything you need you'll end up with a $40,000 investment. Sounds like you are pretty good with a wrench. That will help tons.
Welcome :) to a great web site.
congrats on savin' what I hope is a great car for ya. Make sure ya give it the paint job it deserves an not some quicky 2 coat cheepy  :steering:

Re: First Vette - first post (RogerSS)
Sounds like you have a real labor of love there. I know you have a big list of things to do but here' a few to get you started. Make sure that the front of the radiator/condenser is cleaned out real good. They suck up crud off the street, causing them to run hot. Get some dialectric grease and rub a small amount into all the weatherstrip and wipe off with a clean rag. This prevents ripping and deteriation and keeps them soft. They are very expensive to replace. Make sure your spare tire, jack, and wheel lock socket is there and the spare is not flat (the voice of experiance here). There's more - but this will keep you busy for a while. Enjoy the Corvette Forum experience! :blueangel:
I'm not a big car buff knowledge wise, but I can tell you one thing, reading up on topics on this site helps a lot, there's a lot to be learned from a lot of people on here.
You could not have tapped into a better resource unless your sister's boyfriend is a GM Mechanic and he wants to impress the family.
Among one of many, but without question the wisest piece of advice I have received on this forum, is to buy a set of shop manuals. They are worth their weight in gold, no joke. And get the Helms manuals, not the aftermarket Haynes ones. Much greater detail, and why not, they wrote them for the General.
Rock on, stay in touch, and keep the shiney side up...
Yea, I probably wouldn't have bought my 'Vette so quickly if it wasn't for the month or so reading and searching through the older posts to see what to look for. I came up with a checklist based on a lot of suggestions and freaked several people out by walking around their 'Vette with a clipboard for two hours. Finally found a '94 6 speed in awesome condition and 41K miles. Just put a plate on it tonight but then it started raining :cry

:iagree:
welcome - you'll enjoy the company here and the Vette for years to come!
Unhhh...spare tire? You mean you guys got spare tires??? Who's Jack???
good advice, had to blow the radiator out right after I got it running, it will come out for a good cleaning soon even though it is'nt in too bad shape. Have a Haynes manual but its really not much help. Guess I'll spring for the high dollar one. I try to do as much as I can myself. It's going to CA for a paint job, my son does primo work in the bay area.
