Sorry to hear about your vette and I am glad you are ok. I work in the insuance business in casualty claims and can tell you that you are quite lucky to walk away after a 'vette total. Whatever you do, don't get discouraged and feel bad about it, this sort of thing happens to a lot of people and I am sure that everyone on this forum knows how these cars can "get away" sometimes. Like other members have suggested, I would keep the drive train, wrap a new body around it, and get back on the horse. Just learn from your mistake and keep wearing your seat belt and utilizing any other safety gear you have available. Best of luck.
I'm sorry for your loss, I also had a few accidents of my own but was always lucky to never hit a tree or a car, I just hit the ditch, grass and side walks. (none of this with my vette)
I agree with the other guys...
I actually bought mine with an engine fire (6000$) CND, in US it would come down to 4000$.
Take all your stuff and put them in your new body, engine, tranny, Dana44.
Has you drive the new body around with all of your guts in it you'll probably find some things that will need to be changed.. "like bearing, tie rodden's, U-joints, the usual" you'll have a very big portion of the parts in your scrapped Vette, and they won't cost you a penny.
This is what I would do if I had that much money invested in the engine, trainny and Dana 44.
That certainly makes sense. Just don't know what to do yet. I like the newer C4s with the six speeds. I still have many options. But you guys are great and I sure appreciate the help. Always strap in when you drive. I walked away with a scratch. 27 years ago, I was in the passenger seat of a car and someone crossed over and hit us head on. The impact was so hard that my shoulder harness pulled some of the roof down and left black and blue strap marks along my chest and across my pelvis. 27 years ago to the day! I walked away from that one too.
Glad you are ok these things happen be happy with the fact no one got hurt and you are ok. Don't beat yourself over it and turn the rewind button off on the brain. The car did its job and protected you
If you don't mind a few words of advise:
1) get the car home in your posesion so you can control the situation
2) assuming you had colision coverage, ask your insurance company to have
your car independantly appraised right up front.
3) Assuming you want to keep your drive train, tell them up front you want
the salvage value apprised.
The deal is you get retail value-dedectible-salvage= $ in pocket
This is how much you will have left to find another doner car.
4) Get the settlement and don't buy or sell anything for 30 days
5) cover the car so you don't get depressed looking at it as well as protecting it.
Man it takes big cojones to publically admit you made a mistake! It could have happend to any one of us. We're all glad you're still here and that the only thing lost was the car and a bit of pride. Both can be replaced
