Crashed my 87 last Sun. really bad accident and destroyed most of the car. I feel so bad and idiotic. I'm also in much trouble because I was going like hell. I walked away unscratched and didn't hurt anyone else. The Lingenfelter 383 superam motor was untouched too and the car has a Rossler 700 trans with less than 1000 mi. Rear is a Dana 44 with 3.45s. I'll probably sell all. Just so depressed at myself and it was such a beautiful car with tremendous torque.
Yeah, you know the big thing is to be alive and even bigger is that didn't kill anybody else. Material things can be replaced and I learned from this experience and I will use my head from now on. Thanks.
I'll have to pull it out and check it out to make sure it's ok. I think it is but I don't want to sell any bad parts. I will probably even run the engine on a dyno to check it out too.
I don't know yet. The motor is built by Lingenfelter. As you may know, the rods are Oliver 5.850" billet steel and the crank is a Lunati 4340 steel unit with the one piece rear main style. Very expensive rotating parts. J&E pistons with speed pro file fit rings. L-98 heads done completely by Lingenfelter and 219 cam. Fully ported base intake with fully ported Superam & runners. 1000 CFM billet throttle body. Lingenfelter 1.750" full length headers. Dana 44 rear. Rossler trans. with full rebuild and 3-4 clutch pack improvements. Great trans. I would need at least 11,000 for the motor and trans. Low miles. Sounds crazy, but I can wait for another car if I have to and just put this stuff in that one.
I'll try to do that. I haven't even opened my garage door since I got the car back. Some neighbors saw them unload the dead carcass but knew better than to come over and ask questions. The car even smells dead from all the fluids, etc.
Sorry to hear about the trouble. It could easily have been any one of us, I'm sure -- a little loose gravel or an oil spill on a corner taken aggressively.
I am impressed that you are apparently healthy -- says a lot about the engineering.
Of course, the good news is that you have those wonderful parts to put into another carcass. There are many good carcasses around but your engine is rare. A heart transplant is called for. :yesnod:
WOW, sorry to here, glad your OK. I know your kicking you self in the butt about now, But, don't we all make mistakes. Your best bet would be to find another car to put your drive tran in. Get back on the horse, (so to speek)
Be thankfull for what you have, It can/could have been worse.
Be carefull, Good Luck..
:grouphug: :seeya
Glad your ok; Sorry about your baby. If all the time and money and parts invested in your Vette is still ok, I agree, keep em and install in another Vette. You've got to be able to find a really broken one someone doesn't want to fix.
Next time, keep the rubber on the road. Good luck.

Thats probably what you're gonna have to do. 11K is a little steep to hand ovefr at once. Anyways, I'm sorry for your loss, but glad your OK, its always sad to see another vette go. :(
Try not to :boxing yourself up to hard over this, 440hp/480Ft/# can get out of hand a lot quicker than grandpa’s Oldsmobile. Like everyone said, the main thing is that no one got hurt! Also, these fiberglass wonders of ours don’t just dent/crumply up like a typical Chevy- THEY SHRED & DISINTEGRATE upon impact:eek:! The other thing to keep in mind is, most of us bought our Vett’s to drive fast and push the envelope. As a famous racer one said, if you never crash/spin out, you aren’t pushing hard enough to ever win the race! Back in the days of my F & Fox bodies, I crumpled up a few of them:rolleyes:! The last time I lost it in my Iroc(deceased), I spun off the road, shot out about 50ft in the air and dropped +/- 20ft nose down into a ditch on the drivers side of the front bumper:crazy:.
Boy was that a painful lesson to stay away from cheap brake pads (P. Friction to Raybestos):mad. Anyway, ah-hum, back to you situation: Don’t sell your goodies, you’ve paid top dollar for ‘em, and you won’t get a fraction of what you’ve paid selling them used!!!
Get yourself another C4, or (oh-boy, I can already hear the flames coming for this one) a 3rd gen F-body ~there I said it~, and drop that 383 and trans in it!
I use to work with an engineer who bought a 96 RX-7, and promptly totaled it in 2 weeks. He was devastated; even though the insurance picked up the dime, it was painfully obvious this guy was near suicidal over it for 3 months. 6 months later I tried repeatedly to pull him out of his shell by friendly taunting him to a street engagement (got to be politically correct on the CVF), but he was so freaked out, I don’t think he’ll ever use the 2nd half of an accelerator pedal again!
Just try to pinpoint the error that caused the mishap and focus on improving that item/technique.:steering:
Started taking the car apart. There's a bunch of good parts. The Dana 44 rear is good with the stock 3.45s and I'll take 1200$ for it. Thanks to everyone for the good words to make me feel better. The engine, I'll have to decide later on, but I think it's worth at least 6 or 7k. The tranny, I'll have to remove and inspect closer and see.

Exactly what happened to me and I ended up hitting a telephone pole dead center just after I got it out of the spin.
Glad to hear you're OK. Keep your head up and get some relief for that sick in the stomach feeling...... Go out and buy another one!! :yesnod:
