Can you install it "wrong"?
Does it matter how you turn the dis during install? I thougt that the only thing to consider is to have the NO1 piston at TDC, and the distrubitor pointing at no1 spark wire?
It has to be TDC on the compression stroke. You could install it 180 degrees off if your not paying attention.
:iagree:
Absolutely. You could also be a tooth or more off. The best thing to do BEFORE removing your distributor is set your engine to TDC on the #1 cylinder compression stroke, and then make a mark on the distributor body relative to the intake, and another mark inside on the shaft relative to the distributor body. When you're ready to reassemble, just put the engine back on #1 TDC compression, line up the marks when you drop it in, and she's timed. :smash:

one more item to consider, make sure the distrbutor engages the the oil pump slot, i have had the problem of being one tooth out and not engaging properly. what i did was rotate the engine a small amount until it drop in, and then it lined up to my marks
But i still dont udnerstand how you can install it 180 degrees wrong?
Simple. You line up the rotor on tower #1 when the #1 cylinder is on TDC of the exhaust stroke instead of the compression stroke. Common mistake, ugly results.
Oh, one more note. If you have difficulty reinstalling due to the oil pump lining up on the distributor shaft, it can be turned with a long screwdriver.
