Bad Fly Wheel Teeth???
When I try and start my 88 I occasionaly get a grinding noise as if the starter is slipping on the fly wheel. If I back it off and try starting it again it usually starts, sometimes it takes several tries though, but it always ends up starting in the end.
I am thinking there may be a few missing teeth on the fly wheel. Is this a common thing? Could it possibly be the starter?

Hi Steve, Most of the time it's the starter not engaging properly. Here's a simple check, are the mounting bolts tight? It's fairly easy to pull the starter and check it out. With the starter out, you can slowly rotate the engine and look at the teeth on the fly wheel. Again, I'd bet the bendix drive is not engaging the starter fully. :cheers:
