Steve... is it ruff in the steering, or is it just morning sickness? Though my rack was going out,,, but per forum, drained 1st time and put in 1 bottle Lucas PS conditioner and topped off with AT fluid, ran it a couple of days, drained again and did the same the 2nd time,,, just fine now...

a noisy pump is usually a sign of a shot unit.. also the pump can make a vibration at a cruise speed of 1500-3000 rpm.. oh and its a good indication that the pump is going on the fritz if it makes a whine only when turning..
like was said above morning sickness ( intermittetion power assist when the engine is cold) is a sign of a bad rack.
