I've searched on this topic and there is no real explanation of what to do or how to do it or what to use...especially cleaner wise. I am not talking about polishing to get shiney...just to clean them up...considerably...remove the ingrained grease/dirt. I started using my dremel with a polishing wheel (Felt like wheel) and the dirt started to lift but slowly. Any cleaner I should use?
Thought I'd better stop and ask the experts before I created a nightmare!
Re: Polish the plenum/runners (Bill-35thAnvrsy-88)
If you are not looking for high polish but just a brighter aluminum; I used a brass brush in my cordless drill. Also used a couple of small brushes in my Dremel for hard to reach areas. Got rid of the dull finish.
On some of my brackets and other odd shaped pieces I used a sand blasting cabinet and used glass bead material to clean up the aluminum.
Be careful using any acid based aluminum cleaner, it will rust any steel parts it comes in contact with.
but are you talking about doing that to the inside of the runners? that is what i want to do to mine. my 383 is using the stock tpi and just seems to cut out way to soon in the powerband.
Are you concerned about getting a germ or two from that engine?
Or is it the other way around?
Just joking....   :blueangel:
I shot those pics when I was doing the engine swap. I spent 2 weeks inside the engine compartment cleaning, polishing and painting. By the time I got the new engine in the joke was that it was not just clean, but sterile. So as a joke I brought my scrubs home and took some shots of the "transplant" operation.
