Had a funny one today, my cars been running fine. Couple days ago, after somebody posted about cleaning K&N air filters I realised I hadn't done mine in eons. So I cleaned it, and took the connecting hose off from betwenn the MAF and the throttle body. Sprayed carb cleaner into the throtle body and wiped all the gunk out of there. Put everthing back together.
This morning I went to the gym and back no problems. 15 mintes later went out again, turn the car and the engine came to life and promply died. Weird, turn the key again, same thing. Humm, turn the key and it fired so I kept it running with the gas peddle. Slowly come off the gas, and it's gone from idling at 650rpm to around 400. Once again weird.
I took it over to my friends shop and hooked up the snap-on scanner. Error code 34 (thiry something) MAF sensor. Humm, so we took it off and could see the wire was fine.
Put everything back together, and disconected the battery to remove the error code. The car fired up fine, and the idle is back to normal.

Re: stalled on start (yak driver)
It probably took a few times shutting the car off to turn on the MAF burnoff relay enough times to do its job.
This heats up the MAF filament to burn off any crap that's on it. I bet you put too much oil on the K&N, and it coated the MAF during that drive to the gym.
Weird ... I had the same problem last week. Went out shopping in the morning. Came home and packed the groceries into the house. About 20 minutes later I figured, with all the great weather we have been having ... it was time to drive to the local watering hole and indulge in a couple gallons of my favourite brew. Fired up the car and it started fine but just died. Same thing when I started it up the second time. The third time I had to feather the gas to keep it running. All the way to the bar the car wanted to die at traffic lights. Shut the car down when I got to the bar. A couple hours later I started the car and went home. The car ran perfectly and I haven't experienced this since.
