Default Some new personal bests....

What a day of racing yesterday. Went to a new track in Ohio, Dragway 42, with Corky, his wife, two of his Friends, 85vette(Jim), and my Dad.

Man were there some FAST cars there!!! Out a Quick 16 group there were only 3 cars in the 9s, the rest were all quicker! Insane.

Anyways I was able to click off a few new bests!

Finally got my 1.49 60' time!

First time out since adding some weight to the car with the roll bar, and also first time running through the new full exhaust, and new QA1 shocks in the front. So I was a little concerned to see how things panned out.

First time down I got a 1.50 60' time. Running extremely rich on the WB02, 11.6-.7 AFR. I pulled out an 11.2@~120MPH. DA at 2600'

Came back and tried to lower my fuel pressure. Ever since adding the walbro pump my car has been running a little richer. Unfrortunaly the lowest I can get my pressure with this POS regulator is 43psi. Then the screw comes out! :mad Not having any way of adjusting the pressure down to bring up the AFR, I said screw it, the DA will probably come down as the day goes on and it will help the over rich situation. Lets make the best of it.

Next time out I got the 1.49 60' time! Clicked off a 97.51MPH@ the 1/8 mile, and 11.18@121 @1320ft. Still way too rich!

That run yielded two new bests for me. The 1.49 60' time, and also the 97.51MPH 1.8mile   The 1.4 was one of my goals for the year.

The next time out Corky and I were the first two cars out on the one lane after they put down some new glue. We figured this would be our best chance for a dead hook, and even better 60' times! I watched Cork pull an unreal 60' time, I'll let him tell you what it was. I was pumped to get to the line.

I got up to the first staging light and lit the bulb, waited for my opponent to do the same. Instead he rolled right in and lit both lights instantly :mad I took my good old time, getting the second lite lit, and then just creeped up and barely lit the second stage light. This give you the best chance for a good 60' time. I braked, and started to bring my RPMs up. Got it there and all of a sudden, not sure if the front slide forward, or the brakes did not hold or what, but I moved about 1' forward  :mad and by the time the light started down I was now deep staged. I nailed it and the car I think dead hooked, ran a low 11.2@120...with a 1.56 60' time. Dangit! I must of just been about to trip the first beam with my roll/slide. I was pretty upset with myself or whatever happened. But oh well. Corky pulled a sick 60' time that I'm sure he will share with you all, not to mention the ET.

Ran a few more times then the first round of eliminations. I was seeing the tree very good that day with one .494, and several very low .5xx R/Ts.

As luck would have it I drew Corky the first round. So one of us was going to be out the first round. We staged I dialed 11.10, and he dialed a flat 11.00. Should be an awesome race. I knew with corkys skill I would have to be ontop the tree to beat him. I nailed a .499 RT! And went red! :mad
We ran about dead even down the track with Corks front at about my rear wheel the entire run. Man only .001sec later I would have had a perfect light. We had quite a laugh/raggin session on one another back in the pits. Corky stole that run from me. lol.

Well it was a bunch of fun and can't wait to return from my fishing trip to get back out there to do it again. Is there anything better than this racing? For $.02 I would scratch the week fishing trip to go racing this coming weekend. I think I am a junkie. :D

The price I would pay for that 60' time..I love the feeling of being pinned when I run a 1.80 60' Big difference between 1.80 and a 1.49  Will be waiting for Cork's Numbers..

Ron, We only have one stipulation if you come. You have to run that car! :D Just kidding! But it would be fun to have another racer.

There were two other vette guys there that day besides us three.

I'll be sure to drop you a line.

Thanks everyone else for the nice comments.

Jesse,

Give me some time with the new setup and it's a deal. I've been down for the better part of the last 2 summers, so it'll sure be a rush to go from a 13 second car to one which should run mid 11s. I'm sure that a couple of embarassing 14.xx runs will happen on street tires as I first start playing around with it. I hope to be back in drag action sometime next summer though.

Good luck with the 10s... it's gonna happen soon!

Ron
