I just happened to do a dyno test of the open air box yesterday and here's what I got:
Stock lid-335hp/344ftlb
Open air box-337hp/346ftlb

As a side note mine was on a 92. The airbox on them doesn't even have louvers, it's just some ducting to direct the air into this little opening about the size of a business card, dead center of that huge air filter.

Good question on a stock filter system... A clean paper filter and K&N filter will flow the same......
Hmmm.... would you mind telling me how you came to that conclusion? I really would like to know because Advance Auto Parts has a pretty convincing display w/ a k&n filter, fram filter (new & clean of equal size to the k&n), ping pong ball in a tube and a fan. If any of you have seen this test the k&n filter outflows the fram no question. I don't see how it can be disputed after seeing the test.

I'll bet that fan and tube can't flow 900 cfm. Maybe that's it.
