Default New intake now AFPR? +?s

1) I am about to put on a ported plenum/AS&M runners/Accell base intake setup, should I get an AFPR now?

2) If so which one, there are two holleys at summit that look to fit...which one?

3) Should I get a custom burnt chip or can the ECM accommidate...(cut lid only other mod)?

4) And finally, is exhuast the next step?
TIA!

1) An AFPR would be a good idea now, since you have the fuel rail off.
2) Ask Summit which one if for your L98.
3) Don't even think about a custom chip now; that would be the icing on the cake maybe after heads & cam.
4) For the next step(s), since the intake is off, I would do a 160 deg F stat & fan switch, TB coolant bypass and IAT relocation at this time.
5) Now exhaust would be a good next step and will give you 18-25hp gain.

For tuning think about increasing the TPS base (at 450rpm) setting to .65Vdc (for crisper throttle response & advanced fuel and timing curves)and bumping base timing to just below knock retard (for best throttle response & burn). Use these two mods and the AFPR to do the tuning as you progress with mods that increase air flow.

Ok, I will talk to summit and get the AFPR.
I plan to one day drop a crate or rebuild to 383 so I think I will just save exhaust for then since I will need to buy different headers since I have round port irons now and aftermarkets seem to be all square port.

I believe there are Tech Tips for IAT relocation and TPS adjustment (Plus your site 65z01). The fan currently comes on on startup so I will just leave that be and throw in a 160stat.

But basically how do you adjust the timing? And I really am not following how to tune with the AFPR???

Thanks guys!

Disconnect the set timing connector. Its located on the distributor wire harness, just separate the connector, it I remember right it was a green connector with a tan/blk wire. That sets the timing to base idle then using a standard timing light set the timing to spec just like the old days.

As mentioned you just need to open the connector in the Blk/Tan wire that comes out of the harness near the breke booster; then use a timing light and rotate the dist. as usual. However, here you may need a scan tool to see when you just begin to get knock retard. Or you can go to your local drag strip and adjust base timing for best trap speed, that is after all the goal.

Tuning fuel flow at WOT with the AFPR is similar to tuning base timing for max hp at WOT. You can use trap speed, dyno pulls or a G-Tech to detect what fuel pressure gives the max chp.
