today was 80 degrees, my temp gague registered 200, when i pulled in the garage and shut off the boil over started out the recovery bottle, i waited until cool poped off the cap and the fluid level was all the way to the top, in the radiator. any help would be appreciated.
Could be a head gasket too, especially since you have an '89. Have the system pressure tested. Check compression and the condition of the #7 plug - that's where most fail.
I have an 86, 383 stroker and it has been getting real hot lately and boiled over a few times. I took the radiator out and had it cleaned out and while I was at it I replaced the t-stat from 195 to 160. Its seems to have solved the problem since my radiator was roughly 50 percent clogged with silicon from the intake and t-stat gaskets. As a reminder, more is not always better when using sealant. just use enough to get the job done. The problem now is that I think the car runs too cool. its about 170 on the highway and 180 in traffic. I have the fan on all the time because of the heat issue. The car is roughly 450 horsepower and with my 3:54 gears the engine runs hotter. Also, check behind the radiator because trash gets sucked in there. I didnt believe some of the posts on that issue till I checked mine. Oh my, lots of trash! :skep:
