Carputing LT1/4 edit
Is there anything out there in the computer programing world for the OBDII in a LT4 that is easier, better, cheaper, or just all round more for your money than the LT1 edit?

Re: Carputing LT1/4 edit (owen lancaster)
Not right now. Tuner cat will be coming out with an OBD2 variant of their tuner software soon. But its hard to say when. It has been in the works for a year now.

:nonod: , but I've got Edit and love it. Most tuners also know/use Edit, so that's helpful if you need outside tuning. Tunercat has been promissing OBDII for several years now...

Re: Carputing LT1/4 edit (LT4POWR)
Does the LT1/4 Edit come with some instructions for "DUMMIES" or do you have to be a computor wiz and an expert tuner to use it? I have nitrous and want to be able to tune for the 125 shot as well as the NA for the street. Is there much difference? Thanks for the help

I too live in san antonio! nice to meet ya. I have recently instaled a healthy cam in my 94 and am going to have rob at fuel injection specialties tune my set up on a load bearing dyno. He is a great lt1/ls1 edit tuner. He was able to extract 400 rwhp out of my friends head/cam ls1. I am hoping for <300rwhp out of my setup.

Re: Carputing LT1/4 edit (tjwong)
wow thats not nearly as bad i would be willing to pay close to that if it did everything i want. what exactly is the difference? can i only run one different setting with the 550 dollar one? i would like to be able to change things around frequently and try different stuff. can somebody explain the differences?

Re: Carputing LT1/4 edit (87Z-ya)
87Z-ya I am going to order this setup and will be tuning it myself with the help of a couple of friends that know the system. I am installing LT4 hot cam, long tubes, 52mm TB, and heads. Am running 125 shot nitrous and want to be able to switch back and forth for street and track and I think this is the easiest way to accomplish this. Any and All Comments Very Welcome

Re: Carputing LT1/4 edit (1996man)
You can change anything that the pro tuners can but only to your PCM. You can't go and tune your buddys PCM as it is locked to your PCM only. The problem comes when you fry your PCM or if it goes bad. Then you have to contact Carputing so they will give you another PCM license, to do that you have to return the interface cable to then which is a bit of a pain in the butt, but that is how they do it. Plus you have to send along proof that the PCM was replaced.

Re: Carputing LT1/4 edit (tjwong)
Does carputing have the switch button style to change from several tunes in memory??? I have a friend who has a WRX and he has his system with 2 programs 1 for the street with a nice coservative tune and another for the track. And its all done at the flip of a switch. Is this possible on any of the available systems for the LTx???

i am hoping you are right! i would love to be able to put a zr1 power key on my dash and have it put the car into a valae mode where it only has a speed limiter of like 50 and a rev limiter of like 4k

Re: Carputing LT1/4 edit (BAM92)
Tuner cat has everything from 95 and back. Or just about anything with a prom in it. And NO LT1 Edit cannot do multiple tunes in a OBD1 or OBD2 PCM. But you can do mulitple tunes with any PROM Based ECM. For a PROM based ECM all one needs is a larger capacity PROM and a switch mechanism to access the different memory allocations in the PROM. This is easily done.
A OBD1 or OBD2 flash memory PCM cannot be programmed in such a manner and there is no switching mechanism that would allow access to different memory allocations. Plus in the flash style PCMs there are two flash memory chips that stores the PCM calibration files.
Oh and I forgot to mention. There is soon to be another entity in the PCM editing tools. I heard news that there will be soon to be released new software tools similar to LT1 and LS1 edit that will be available to Tuners and individuals. This will finally enable Tuners to tune FORD :U ECMs as well. Plus this means that the Carputing guys will have some competition as well which is good because it will bring the prices down. So its more affordable for everyone.

Re: Carputing LT1/4 edit (Darkness)
so who here has the LT1/4 edit for a 96? if so were you ablt to reprogram your vehicle to get any more power when the rest of the car is basically stock? i have heard that vetts are harder to get power out of just a "chip" unlike rice burners that can gain power pretty fast from such changes. anyonee care to elaborate?

Re: Carputing LT1/4 edit (1996man)
The LT1 and LT4 cars are pretty spot on from GM. There isn't much more power to be had, maybe 5 to 7 if you really spend a lot of time with it with no bolt ons. The power comes when you add heads, cam, exhaust changes and stroking the engine. Then you can tune for these mods and get the big numbers.
As for them Rice burners, even tuning on them won't help them much until you start adding some parts. The time that they get some power is with the turbo cars when they tweak the boost tables But even with the ricers, they don't have a tool like Edit that allows them to just go in and mod the tables. Most of them have to replace the OBD2 PCM/ECM with an earlier OBD1 comptuer. Then they have to socket the computer and install a different programmable chip that would allow them to reprogram it. So its not as easy as one may think.
Most stock Hondas won't get much power until they add some power pills. And even then their power levels are not much to write home about. Don't get me wrong some of them things can make some big numbers but then they are not streetable or barely streetable. And then their reliability drops to near zero. Now a stock mid 90's Supra can be modded to make huge power with minor changes. Adding a single large turbo will give that Supra well over 500+ Hp!

Re: Carputing LT1/4 edit (tjwong)
how hard is it to up the timing on LT4s? wouldnt that give you quite a bit more power? i understand if it gets to hgihg you will need a higher octane but it would be kinda nice to be able to do that at the track
