Checking Pushrod Length
Has anyone else out there been faced with the problem of checking pushrod length(proper contact of rocker arm-to-valve tip) upon installing new heads? What device (pushrod checker) works well and brand/source? Thanks. :confused:

I bought Comp Cams Hi-Tech pushrod length checker. It's a vernier type tool - according to the tech at Comp Cams, I needed (and purchased) a P/N 7702-1 (6.800" to 7.800"). The tool operates like a vernier gage, each complete revolution of the adjustment head is equal to .050". I'll let you know how well it works when the new heads show up and I start building my engine. :seeya

You will also need a dummy rocker arm to measure against using the adjustable push rod. You can use a Lunati part number 80210, it can be used with either 3/8 or 7/16" studs. There is another dummy rocker arm device that is made of plastic but its not very well made and I don't recommend it. The Lunati device is about $65 from Summit if I remember right but you get repeatable measurements with it.

I used the comp cams gauge mentioned above and one of my rockers with the instructions on comp cams' website. Everything worked out great, it is a quality tool and easy to use. Bought it from Summit.
