So far I have done all the free mods as well as LT headers and 2.5in exhaust. What else could i do as far as giving it more top end? I want to be able to run with slightly modded LS1's. :smash:
The C5s top out in the 170-174ish region if the driver has enough ***** to do it. To do that you need quite a bit more hp. To hit 175mph I would give an educated guess of about 350hp needed.
Last year when my car was making 388hp & 445 ft/lb it was pulling a friend's 2000 Convertible with an aftermarket exhaust that ran high 12s at the strip on the highway. It also left a 2000 Camaro SS with catback behind to see 4 round taillights. :) The Z06s were still out of the question. A 50-150 punch showed the Z06 to have about 4.5-5 carlength advantage by the time the binders were put on.
What mods did you have done to achieve that hp & tq? I have an auto early 86. Are the stock iron heads capable of producing those #'s?
No they are not. People say the 85-86 iron smog heads are maxed out at about 300HP. That's where I am now, and I dynoed 301HP. That's why I'm switching to a nice set of race heads..
Its not going to be affordable unless you do alot of the labor.
It adds up fast. My top end parts that gave me those #s were $3200 with me doing all of the work. The nitrous and ignition you see listed there was another $1335 on top of that.
My costs were cut down a lot by doing things such as buying a used superram setup for $600 vs. about $1150 new. I bought the heads used for $600 vs. probably ~$1100 for bare & new since I still had to add all of my own valvetrain components. I got a timing set nearly new for I think $50 vs. $100. The cam cost me $200 vs. $350 new.
