My 85 is in the shop for a trans rebuild (warranty thank God), and I am thinking that maybe I may put a higher stall converter. I'm pretty sure i have a standard TC now. where should I go if I want good street manners and and occasional trip down the 1/4.
and, where would be the best place to buy since I will need it pretty quick, before the 24th. Price?

the stock 85 converter is pretty nice for a daily driver. its in the 2200 rpm range.
however, if money is not a problem i would pick up a vigilante in the 2200-2400 rpm range. i know the stall isnt much different, but.... its a 9.5" unit , which = less reciprocating weight and it multiplies torque much faster than an oem unit. its also much much stronger, billet housing, torrington bearings, etc.etc.
I had rebuilt my TC to 2800 stall...The shop was very nice about it. They said it was common practice to rebuild TC anyway(when tranny was repaired) and the modification was simple to do... :hurray:
I'm running a Edge 3000 stall in my 95, if I had to do it over again I'd go down to 2600 or so. It's a thrill when I lean on it, but a bit mushy for all around driving.
Unless you want more performance out of the hole for racing and will modify your engine I don't see a point in getting a higher stall than the stock 2k converter. have it rebuilt. I think anything over 2400 would be too mushy for everyday driving, but thats just my opinion.
I replaced the converter in my stock '84 Crossfire when I had a bulletproof trans built in anticipation of a new engine. I went with a 2600 rpm stall Vigilanti. Granted, the converter that came out was awfully tight (from a previous stock type rebuild), but that sucker cut .4 seconds off my 1/4 mile times. It CAN be just a little tedious during daily driving, but this is one HAULIN' Crossfire. I just cut my first sub 2 second 60' time. This is a worn out stock (factory stock) L83 running at 4400 feet altitude. Get a GOOD converter, and don't forget a monster cooler at the same time. Good luck, and...
I was thinking of the cooler anyway. seems like a good investment. Just seems the stock TC wants to spin the tires a bit too much. (could be the lead implants in foot though).

That's a good thing about Vigilante, don't like the stall? They'll fix it for you with a different stall.... but I think it's only done once or something.
