02 Sensor replaced- Do you think it needed it? :) (PIC)
Well, what do you guys think? This was the old one. It was suggested to me in a previous thread, that since I had replaced wires, cap, rotor, & plugs, I should consider the 02 sensor as well.... I did. thanks for the advice!

You can read O2 sensors somewhat like a spark plug. That one certainly isn't fouled from being run rich. It actually looks like it's been running a little lean. Most healthy ones I've seen have had a dry black carbon buildup on them, normal exhaust carbon. All the fouled ones I've seen have been an oily black.
Never seen one quite like yours before. Didn't you have another thread where you think you may have found a vacuum leak? If that's so maybe that was causing it to run lean?
The real question is, does the car run any better?

Vacuum leak started today after install of valvle covers. Thought it was because the grommets didn't fit properly, but now I just noticed a tube that is off, isn't connected to anything. I just can't figure out what it is and where it is supposed to go. I posted pics of it on another thread. any advice will hellp. Probably something obvious and simple.

Found where the loose tube went. That problem solved. Once I get the correct pcv & breather tube grommets & install them, I should be right back on track. :)

In the manual (for an 86) it states that a white powdery coating is silicone contamination caused by fuel or use of the wrong RTV sealant. States that it causes a false high voltage signal (indicating rich condition) and fuel delivery to the engine is reduced, leading to drivability issues. Excuse me for telling you something that you probably already know, but make sure you use the correct lubricant when you install the new one (little glass beads for antiseize). Good job at changing that one. You're really working at debugging that Vette. Keep it up!

I made sure it got the 30 ft lbs of touque as mentioned by forum member. :) Yes, it does seem that the more I learn, the more I replace stuff. But, to tell the truth, I live alone & my daughter is in Texas & nearly grown, so I can be a bit selfish & spend time on the vette. So, I actually enjoy it!

129K miles? It is time to send that one to its maker. Its probably reacting slow by now. It should give you some fuel milage gains as well with a new sensor.
