Hey all, I have an 85 that just loves to leak oil...
I have replaced everything replaceable related to
oil (pan gaskets/ seals/ the dummy pump to plate
gasket, timing cover gaskets and valve cover gaskets).
Thing is, it is in the same spot (passenger side front).
Everyone looks dry, but sure enough, after the ride
to work it'll be wet on the crossmember under the
compressor and will start to drip ( I hate that!)
Soooooo, what am I missing here? I'm ready to
call it quits and buy a FORD (OMG, no!).(' :cry ');
Any help would be appreciated, thanks...
I hate oil leaks!!!
Hmmm could be, but there is no smoke or appearance of wet oil higher than the water pump.
It appears to be somewhere near the front pass corner of oil pan area (thereabouts)
Would a head gasket leak oil? I can not reproduce thie problem when the car is on the lift.
Only on the highway.. maybe I should have someone get in and hold it at 2 grand while
I get under.... (' :banghead: ');
Is it compressor oil ?
Degrease the engine bay and motor.
After its dry start the motor.
Grab a chair and a six pack and watch and waite. :D
You could try one of those dyes that make your oil glow with the right glasses and lighting.
Welcome to the forum !! :seeya
:cheers:
Thanks for the welcome, the dye idea sounds worth trying.
Compressor oil, I dont think it is. Wouldnt I also lose refrigerant too?
This one's a good one...PITA.. Appreciate the help..
there is a bolt hole on the front pass. side of the engine block than will leak, especially if the bolt fell out. this hole is used to pin the fuel pump pushrod (on mechanical pump engines) when the fuel pump is being replaced. use some thread sealer on this bolt and recheck for leaks.
:iagree: Another vote for the intake. Mine was leaking at the PS rear and I couldn't find it for weeks. Oil will travel in all manner of cracks and along mating surfaces. Your intake may be leaking and flowing down to the water pump and timing cover and on to the pan.
Just a quick FYI.
My vette had Quite a few leaks on it.
But then about 4000 miles ago I put in Valvoline MAX Life oil.
Now I have no leaks. My vette has 87k miles on it.
No spots on the garage floor.
Good Luck

The culprit was the missing bolt in the front of the block.
There are two holes, and it is the upper one was missing.
Thanks forum, I shoulda asked before I did all the other
work... :hurray:
